In cooperation with ICWUC Center for Worker Safety and Health Education, the Health & Safety Team encourages members to attend the following trainings.  Courses may include scholarships through grant funding.

Course Descriptions

Chemical Emergency Response

CER Chemical Emergency Response 32-hour training is an Awareness Level HAZWOPER class covering hazardous material releases and how to address them safely. Includes hazard identification, health hazards and chemical spill research tools, a review of relevant OSHA standards, PPE and respirator use, spill containment and decontamination procedures.

Disaster Training

The NIEHS 40 hour - Disaster Train the Trainer program teaches emergency and disaster response workers the skills and knowledge necessary to protect themselves, their community and environment from hazards encountered after environmental or industrial catastrophes such as hurricanes, floods, spills or fire.

Hazardous Materials Instructor Training

The DOT 32- hour Hazardous Materials Instructor Training (HMIT) teaches workers who handle hazardous chemicals the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent releases and protect themselves, their community and environment during hazardous material transportation emergencies. This is a Train-the-Trainer program.

40-Hour HAZWOPER

Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training provides 40 hours of off-site instruction; one part of OSHA requirements for the HAZWOPER standard (29.CFR 1910.120). Geared for hazardous material handlers and supervisors, it covers comprehensive and site specific work plans, hazard identification and PPE selection, hands-on practice with PPE, respirators, cleanup, personnel rescue, and decontamination.
